Buitelandse Valuta means Foreign Currency in Afrikaans. I spent 12 years teaching abroad and am thankful for the wonderful opportunities and fantastic people I met along the way. Most of my jobs were in isolated places. I usually applied for these vacancies as the savings potential was better. These songs I wrote in various places during this time trying to make sense of life and my experiences. Reflecting on the album I think the key concepts are 1. Being Stuck 2. Running Away 3. The Danger of Romanticism 4. The Halo Effect 5. Possible Regret. Hopefully you find some meaning in my songs.
